The Cuisinart Coffee Maker company started out in 1971 not as a coffee maker manufacturer but as a maker and distributor of food processors. They made several improvements over the first several years including a reversible patented blade.
In 1988 the Sontheimers decided that they would sell their company. They sold to a group of investors who sold the company to the Conair Corporation in 1989. Conair quickly added other products starting with Cuisinart Coffee Makers. Then adding toasters, hand mixers and toaster oven broilers.
