The machine was first sold in France in 2004 and since then has spread to the United States, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and Austria. Kraft Foods first developed the coffee makers which were manufactured by Saeco and distributed by Braun. In 2008 Kraft Foods and Braun decided to stop producing them and they are now being made by Bosch. Kraft Foods still manufactures and distributes the T Discs for the Tassimo Hot Beverage System.
The Tassimo T-Discs are designed so that the bar code on the disc is read by the coffee brewer which determines how much water to use, brewing time needed, and temperature is used for the particular beverage being brewed. Brewing is a 30 to 60 second process.
