Answer:
The pause and serve function is automatic. You don't need to do anything in order to use this feature. You just remove the carafe while brewing and the coffee maker will automatically stop dripping coffee into the carafe. When you return the carafe to the coffee maker, the unit will automatically start dripping coffee into the carafe again.
