It has been known to be estrogenic ever since the mid 1930s. The news media started reporting regularly in 2008 after governments began issuing reports that were questioning the safety of products made with BPA. In 2010 the USA started being concerned in regards to exposure of BPA to fetuses, infants, and young children. In 2010 Canada declared BPA as a toxic substance, the first country to do so. It is banned in baby bottles in Canada and the European Union.
