The company was established in Osaka, Japan in 1918. They started out by setting the standard for vacuum insulation technology in kitchen appliances. The corporation changed it's name from Ichidawa Brothers Trading Company to the Zojirushi corporation in 1961. They introduced an electric rice warmer in 1973, and electric air pots in 1980. In 1987 they expanded to the United States market by setting up the Zojirushi America Corporation in California. The emphasis is on launching a steady string of top selling cooking and food preservation items. No more burnt taste from having the brewed coffee staying warm on a heating plate. The vacuum insulated carafe keeps the brew warm and fresh. Customer Reviews are around 2/3 favorable overall. Zojirushi EC-BD15 PROS: The large 1.5 liter thermal carafe, which is approx. 51 ounces. The automatic feature which lets you wake up to hot coffee in the morning. The brew basket is insulated to keep the water hot while waiting to be brewed. The gauge for water volume is very accurate. Easy to program without too many choices to make. Unit is very easy to clean and the parts are very durable. This model brews the coffee very quickly without any overflowing or leaking problems. Zojirushi EC-BD15 CONS: The unit is rather tall at 15 inches, so you will need to check your counter space before purchasing. Uses #3 paper filters which can be rather hard to find. You should put water that is at least lukewarm and not cold in the water reservoir if you want the brewed coffee that is hot enough.
